Everyone is talking about CPC training…

Justyna Przybysz, our Site Support Coordinator at Milestone Operations emphasises the importance of completing the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence qualification

“As most of you will have already heard, professional drivers are required to pass their 35 hours of the periodic CPC training by the 10th of September 2014.

No matter how many CPC modules would you have already completed or how many years of experience of driving a lorry, you would still be required to pass all the modules within the next few months. The deadline is approaching fast and there is no doubt that training availability will also become limited due to sharp spike in demand.

Many of you would ask about the purpose of having the CPC completed.

So why is it so important?

The new EU directive was introduced for several reasons, the main purpose being to improve the knowledge and skills of lorry drivers. The Driver CPC course should help improve road safety, improve the image and perception of professional lorry drivers and importantly reduce fuel consumption helping improve the environment.

Just try to imagine an IT consultant, who qualified 10 years ago, would he be up to date with all technology news without undergoing through new training courses? Or a Lawyer who does not understand new law regulations. For many professional occupations training and development is vital for a number of reasons including safety, efficiency, and improvements just to name a few.

Therefore the CPC qualifications are highly important for the success of the logistic industry and it is seen as key to driver professionalism, crucial to continuous learning and development within the industry.

Whatever your personal view is on the benefits of completing the CPC training, the fact is, if being a professional driver is a career that you are serious about you must complete your CPC without delay!”

If you are a Milestone driver, please speak to your site manager about CPC course dates. For more information on the Driver CPC please visit https://www.gov.uk/driver-certificate-of-professional-competence-cpc.
