What can I expect in my HGV test?
The practical component of an HGV test lasts roughly 90 minutes. You’ll be given some vehicle safety questions and then you’ll do some practical road driving where you’ll be asked, amongst other things:
- To use vehicle controls
- To do breaking exercises,
- To give appropriate signals,
- To deal with hazards, and
- To use mirrors
Off-road exercises include things like ‘s’ reversing into a bay, and uncoupling and re-coupling if you choose to take the test with a trailer. As soon as you’re done the examiner will tell you if you have passed or not. If you do pass, congratulations! And if you don’t, don’t worry. You can wait three working days and then take the test again.
